Coleman-Weinberg SO(10) GUT Theories as Inflationary Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
The flat-space limit of the one-loop effective potential for SO(10) GUT theories in spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies is applied to study the dynamics of the early universe. The numerical integration of the corresponding field equations shows that, for such grand unified theories, a sufficiently long inflationary stage is achieved for suitable choices of the initial conditions. However, a severe fine tuning of these initial conditions is necessary to obtain a large e-fold number. In the direction with residual symmetry SU(4)PS ⊗ SU(2)L ⊗ SU(2)R, one eventually finds parametric resonance for suitable choices of the free parameters of the classical potential. This phenomenon leads in turn to the end of inflation. 02.60.Cb, 03.70.+k, 11.15.Ex, 98.80.Cq Typeset using REVTEX Electronic address: [email protected] Electronic address: [email protected] Electronic address: [email protected]

Inflation and Unification
Two distinct classes of realistic inflationary models consistent with present observations are reviewed. The first example relies on the Coleman-Weinberg potential and is readily realized within the framework of spontaneously broken global symmetries (for instance, global U(1)B−L). Depending on the parameters either new or large field inflation is possible. The second example exploits supersymm...

متن کاملModels Which Allow a “new Inflationary” Universe History*
We analyse a class of Grand-Unified Theories and show that, if one accepts severe fine-tuning of many parameters, it is possible to satisfy all the physical constraints that one would like to impose for an Inflationary Universe scenario. We include some post-inflation constraints, such as the usual zerotemperature heirachy, as well as the constraints that arise directly from the inflationary pe...
متن کاملRenormalization-group improved effective potential for gauge theories in curved spacetime
The renormalization-group improved effective potential for an arbitrary renormalizable massless gauge theory in curved spacetime is found, thus generalizing Coleman-Weinberg’s approach corresponding to flat space. Some explicit examples are considered, among them: λφ theory, scalar electrodynamics, the asymptotically-free SU(2) gauge model, and the SU(5) GUT theory. The possibility of curvature...
متن کاملFormation of Magnetic Monopoles in Hot Gauge Theories
In the non-inflationary Big Bang scenario, magnetic monopoles formed at the phase transition of the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) lead to a severe cosmological problem, because their energy density would be so high that the universe would have collapsed under its own weight a long time ago. This problem is famously solved by inflation, provided that the temperature of the universe never reaches th...
